OPM350L Sodick's new 3-D metal printer is ideal for the manufacture of molds. Powered by a linear motor drive, it uses a 500-watt laser to irradiate metallic powder. The printer features a unique machining method called parallel mode; using it, the laser can sinter in three locations at once.
What's new? North American availability of the printer, which debuted in Asia in November.
Benefits The accurate manufacture of complex shapes, such as 3-D cooling channels and deep ribs, within one machine. With its parallel mode capabilities, the printer efficiently creates shapes at high speeds. Also, the printer is equipped with a camera that assists in in-process correction, tracking the laser and milling spindle positions at all times and allowing for tight tolerances and the reduced need for maintenance.
