Extrusion processors now can access the testing technologies used by extrusion specialist Guill Tool & Engineering, which has begun offering the services of its rheology lab for a fee at its headquarters in West Warwick, R.I.

The lab’s technologies include a thermal conductivity meter, a new CT scanner and a rotational rheometer, which can generate visco-elastic data for polymer melts, precisely capturing polymer melt properties, at temperature ranges between the ambient temperature and 572 degrees Fahrenheit. The lab’s scanning calorimeter can characterize the thermal properties of a polymer sample, such as crystallization temperature, glass transition temperature and the sample’s head capacity.

The lab also boasts a newly purchased IM-8000-series image-dimension-measurement system from Keyence, with a 20-megapixel CMOS sensor and a new algorithm for stable edge detection high-accuracy measurement.

At the lab, Guill Tool can measure the flow characteristics of plastics and rubber and optimize tooling geometry.
