Firms team up for PET recycling system

Sept. 1, 2016
This recycling system for PET decontaminates, dries and melts PET flakes to make food-contact-compliant containers.

Xtreme Renew This new recycling system for PET is the result of a collaboration between Erema, a maker of recycling equipment, and Sipa, Vittorio Veneto, Italy, which makes manufacturing lines for PET containers. Erema's Vacurema technology uses a vacuum reactor and a single-screw extruder to decontaminate, dry and melt PET flakes. Sipa's Xtreme rotary injection-compression technology then is used inline to create preforms that are food-contact compliant.

What's new? The combination of technologies from Erema and Sipa for direct processing of PET flake into preforms.

Benefits The elimination of the pelletizing step, which results in energy-efficient operation and one less heat history for the resin.
