3D printer manufacturer Stratasys, Eden Prairie, Minn., announced it has acquired the additive manufacturing (AM) materials business of advanced polymers and high-performance plastics firm Covestro AG, Leverkusen, Germany.

The move gives Stratasys control of R&D facilities, global development and sales teams across Europe, U.S. and Asia, as well as and the portfolios of Covestro’s extensive intellectual property and approximately 60 AM materials.

“Today marks a significant milestone for us as we solidify our leadership in the polymer additive manufacturing industry,” Stratasys CEO Yoav Zeif said. “With this acquisition, we’re not just expanding our materials portfolio for our broad array of 3D printing technologies – we’re also paving the way for more new innovations.”

Stratasys said it will continue to fully support customers, whether the materials are used with 3D printers from the company or other OEMs.
