3D Systems plans major facility expansion

3-D printer manufacturer 3D Systems Inc. plans to add 100,000 square feet to its existing headquarters campus in Rock Hill, S.C. The expansion will add space for improved materials development laboratories, larger training facilities and manufacturing capabilities.

It will also allow the company to more closely integrate its materials manufacturing, quality and logistics operations.

The expansion is expected to lead to 50 additional jobs over the next five years.

Chuck Hull, who invented 3-D printing technology in 1983, is the co-founder and CTO of 3D Systems, which manufactures metal and polymer 3-D printers and develops materials, software and services for the industry.
