Erema sees demand for ReFresher technology

March 30, 2021
The Austria-based company has sold 25 of the odor-reducing systems for recycling.

Erema said recycling goals set by the European Union have helped drive demand for recycling systems featuring its odor-reducing ReFresher technology. The company said it has sold 25 of the modules, with 19 ordered in the past 18 months, with some in the U.S.

The FDA has approved recyclate produced by Erema’s setup for use in plastics in direct contact with food of all kinds. Specifically, the set involves an Intarema TVEplus RegrindPro machine in combination with a ReFresher module processing an input stream of HDPE beverage containers, PET beverage bottles and HDPE and PP closures.

According to Thomas Hofstätter, a process engineer at Erema, “While the high degassing extrusion system removes mainly highly volatile, low-molecular-weight substances, the ReFresher ensures a significant reduction of the low-volatile, high-molecular-weight organic compounds in the recycled pellets.
