Lanxess introduces MDI Ester system for PU

Dec. 27, 2022
The hot-cast/cold-cure process offers energy savings of approximately 44 percent.

Polyurethane (PU) system Lanxess developed its hot-cast/cold-cure system of high-performance PU cast elastomers in 2021. While traditional hot-cast materials require high temperatures to cure properly, the company’s hot-cast/cold-cure package combines its Vibrathane methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) Ether prepolymers with its Vibracure curatives, which can be cured at room temperature to produce parts like that shown.

What’s new? The introduction this year of Lanxess’ new PU materials package, employing MDI Ester materials, which Lanxess developed earlier this year

Benefits Lower energy usage and reduced carbon-dioxide emissions. Compared to traditional hot-cast/hot-cure methods, Lanxess’ hot-cast/cold-cure process offers energy savings of approximately 44 percent. The cold-cure system produces similar elastomer properties to its hot-cure equivalent, and processors can use existing Lanxess meter-mix equipment. The system also improves operator safety by not employing hot tables or ovens, which come with the risk of inflicting burns.
