Mitutoyo hybrid combines contour, roughness measurement

The Formtracer Avant is fast and precise, can measure features on molds or plastic parts.

Formtracer Avant This hybrid measuring system from Mitutoyo provides fast, high-precision measurement of both contour and surface roughness features. This combination of capabilities allows it to measure such things as the angle and pitch of the threads of a PET bottle, surface roughness of polymer medical parts, or the same characteristics in the molds used to produce them. Its high-speed drive unit and faster vertical motion allow it to complete measurements faster.

What’s new? New design elements, including an angled front surface to the vibration isolator and side table that improves ergonomics for users. The remote joystick box now has operation keys that make setup and part programming easier, and the stylus tip is protected by a new function that controls the stylus’ downward movement.

Benefits Improved efficiency. With its “hot swapping” capabilities, users can quickly change between surface and contour detector heads without using tools or powering off the control unit, and software automatically detects the exchange. All models of the Formtracer Avant can be upgraded and retrofitted with optional detectors to boost their measuring versatility.
