AGVs automate parts handling

Outfitted with two powered conveyor decks, each Creform AGV moves from one production-floor conveyor to another, automatically transferring full and empty pallets.

AGV system Creform has designed and built a system of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to support a customer’s production machinery. Outfitted with two powered conveyor decks, each AGV moves from one production-floor conveyor to another, automatically transferring full and empty pallets. The AGVs are guided by magnetic tape; radio-frequency identification tags are used to control their speed and to sense any obstacles. Measuring 5.7 feet long by 5.3 feet wide and 4.2 feet tall, each unit has a load capacity of 1,455 pounds and can travel up to 164 feet per minute. Each conveyor deck can be raised to a maximum height of 2.8 feet. The AGVs have heavy-duty, fabricated steel bases for strength and rigidity and feature integrated forklift tubes to allow them to be easily lifted for maintenance. Optical communication devices coordinate the operation of the AGV conveyors with stationary conveyors.

What’s new? The system of AGVs.

Benefits Safe, automated handling of parts. Photocells in the conveyor decks verify that the load is secure during travel. Other safety features include audible warning devices, flashing lights, e-stops and laser scanners. Additionally, the AGVs automatically recharge their batteries by pulling into a charging station without human intervention.
