PLASTICS: U.S. plastics industry sees trade surplus

Mexico and Canada are still the country's largest export markets, but the U.S. has $13.7 billion deficit with China.

In its annual Global Trends report, the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) said the U.S. plastics industry still shows a trade surplus. Using data from 2019 and the first half of 2020, the report said Mexico and Canada are still the largest export markets for the U.S., with exports of $15.3 billion to Mexico and $12.4 billion to Canada. The largest surplus – $9.8 billion – is with Mexico, according to the Washington, D.C.-based association.

Overall, the U.S. surplus dropped to $400 million in 2019 from $500 million in 2018.

The U.S. ran a $13.7 billion deficit with its third-largest export market, China.
