GL30-LP Distributed through Plustech, the newest horizontal molding machine from Sodick Co. Ltd., Yokohama, Japan, provides advanced injection for micro features with extremely tight tolerances. Like Sodick's other machines, the 33-ton press uses a two-stage plunger system, which separates the plasticization and injection processes for consistent measurement and injection of the melt stream. It incorporates a hybrid clamping mechanism that uses a hydraulic pumping system controlled by an upgraded servo motor. The machine can make parts as small as 0.00015 gram, with a deviation of weight as low as 0.00019 gram.

What's new? The machine, which was introduced recently at the Medical Design & Manufacturing show in Minneapolis. At the show, it made a micro bushing for a company that has many customers in the medical market.

Benefits Flexibility and precision. The machine is able to reduce the clamp tonnage to 5 percent of its maximum, dialing it down to about 1.5 tons without losing accuracy. It has a response time of 2-3 milliseconds, maximum injection velocity of about 51 inches per second and maximum injection pressure of 41,730 pounds per square inch.
