Reifenhäuser joins EU recycling initiative

Reifenhäuser Group announced it has joined the digital watermarks recycling initiative. The plastic extrusion technology specialist, which is based in Troisdorf, Germany, is working with partners in Europe to develop a digital standard for documentation of recycling packaging properties. As part of the initiative, manufacturers plan to imprint small, imperceptible codes on consumer goods packaging with details such as SKU, resin type and composition of multilayer objects. The watermarks can then be decoded by cameras used on recycling sorting lines to improve sorting. This effort is being run under the auspices of AIM, the European Brands Association.
