Software creates 'twin' to simulate part build

Simcenter 3D Additive Manufacturing This module for Siemens’ Simcenter 3-D software uses a digital twin to simulate construction of part designs, and predicts where residual heat may cause distortion and shrinkage. It then automatically generates a corrected geometry to compensate for these distortions in powder-bed-fusion 3-D printing of metal.

What’s new? The module, which debuted at Formnext 2018 in November. At the show, Siemens presented the design, simulation and printing of a mold.

Benefits “First-time right” printing. The module’s digital twin lets users verify the build process, reducing the number of real test prints needed.
