Fabrication printer handles more materials
Apium P 155 Apium's new fused-filament-fabrication printer deposits polymer in a sequential fashion onto solidified surfaces. It is suited for making honeycomb structures for lightweighting, or building parts that would otherwise require milling and would waste material. It can build parts measuring as big as about 5.5 by 5.3 by 5.8 inches. Apium is a new company formed through the partnership of two German companies, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, Heidelberg, and Indmatec AG, Karlsruhe. With its machine, which has been adapted to handle PEEK, it has improved on 3-D printing technologies originally introduced by Indmatec in 2015.
What's new? The ability to print polyetherimide, polyacetal and polyvinylidene fluoride. Compared to previous printers manufactured by Indmatec, the printer has been upgraded for better temperature handling and layer adhesion. It is also now equipped with a quick-change nozzle, as well as an optical process control that stops the print process if an error arises.
Benefits Greater flexibility, thanks to changes to accommodate more materials. Also, upgrades to the nozzle have made changeovers of less than 2 minutes possible. The machine is designed to efficiently process high-performance materials and print complex geometries and lightweight parts.
