Emerson updates wireless, digital Plantweb system

Sept. 25, 2017
Emerson's Plantweb digital ecosystem is designed to implement the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) in manufacturing plants.

Plantweb Emerson has expanded the capabilities of its Plantweb digital ecosystem, a portfolio of hardware, software, devices and services for implementing the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) in manufacturing plants.

What's new? A dual-mode, wireless gateway that supports both the IEC 62951 and ISA100.11a wireless communication standards. A wireless gateway acts as the backbone of a wireless infrastructure and increases the amount of real-time information available to automation systems, applications and analytics tools.

Benefits Lower costs and increased security. The wireless gateway minimizes capital expenses because it requires less hardware and employs "always on" security to limit network vulnerability. Also, the wireless gateway makes it easier for businesses to implement sensor-networking technologies based on the WirelessHART standard.
