System predicts maintenance issues

This predictive maintenance system from Engel can collect data from critical injection molding machine components.

e-connect.monitor This new predictive maintenance system from Engel can be used to collect data from critical injection molding machine components during operation, analyze the data and predict the components' remaining service life. The system is available for injection screws and the spindles that actuate the axial movements in electric presses.

What's new? The system. Engel is offering e-connect.monitor as an option on all new machines, and is working on a retrofit kit for existing Engel units. The company also plans to eventually extend the predictive maintenance system to other machine components.

Benefits Reduced maintenance costs and the reduction of unplanned downtime. The system's sensors can measure an injection molding machine screw, like that shown, above, in a few minutes, as compared to the days necessary to remove, clean and measure a screw manually. Components can be replaced when they are worn out — instead of too soon, or after they have failed.
