Coperion system produces high-quality rPET

The recycling line is highly customizable to meet customer needs.

Recycling system Tailored for both bottle-to-bottle and bottle-to-sheet recycling applications, Coperion’s latest standardized PET recycling solution integrates advanced twin-screw extruders with components for various process steps according to the customer’s needs. When paired with a solid-state polycondensation (SSP) reactor, the resulting recycled PET (rPET) is certified for direct food contact by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Food Safety Authority.

What’s new? The systems, available since the end of last year.

Benefits The ability to produce high-end rPET appropriate for food trays and beverage containers, with throughputs ranging from around 1,100 pounds per hour to 10 tons per hour. The new system is designed for high process controllability, enhanced decontamination, material homogeneity and improved intrinsic viscosity (IV) stability, and comparatively low energy consumption and short residence times, resulting in reduced degradation. Also, the extruders’ modular design allows for easy replacement of screw elements and barrels.
