The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) announced that safety standards for granulators, strand pelletizers and dicers have been updated by its Machinery Safety Standards Committee.

The new American National Standards Institute-accredited safety standard, Safety Requirements for Granulators, Strand Pelletizers and Dicers Used for Size Reduction of Plastics, is the product of a three-year collaboration of committee members that drew from many sectors of the plastics industry, and updates and expands a 2004 standard.

The new publication sets standards for the manufacture, care and use of granulators, strand pelletizers, dicers and single-shaft rotary grinders. Committee members included Bay Plastics Machinery President Jason Forgash and Conair’s GM for size reduction, David Miller.

“This document provides important information, vital to the safety of people working on or near some very powerful machinery,” said Tony Radoszewski, president and CEO of PLASTICS, “and the standards for keeping these machines in top condition are essential to the future of plastic production and recycling.”
