MegaShear mixer works inline

Feb. 1, 2020
MegaShear Designed for compounders, this line of mixers from Charles Ross can quickly mix, emulsify and homogenize resins and polymer batches. The mixer operates inline in continuous-manufacturing applications without a mixing vessel. Pictured is the company’s HSM-706M-50; featuring a 50-horsepower motor, it is appropriate for the chemical, composites and coating industries, among others.

What’s new? A new geometry for the rotor/stator face.

Benefits Higher tip speeds, greater shear and economical price. The mixer has a tip speed of 11,310 feet per minute — much faster than a previous version’s speed of 3,164 feet per minute. Also, the unit’s new geometry makes possible shear levels usually achieved only by high-pressure homogenizers that cost far more. Compared to high-pressure homogenizers, the MegaShear is much less sensitive to clogging and changes in viscosity.
