DME baffles provide cooling in tricky molds
Baffles These devices, offered by DME, are designed for cooling molds that have geometries that cannot accommodate straight-drilled cooling channels. In such molds, where the water channels can’t be drilled close to the part surface, baffles can be inserted into a channel perpendicular to the main water channel. The water is then carried by this cross channel upward alongside the baffle.
What’s new? More sizes. Baffles are now available with NPT threads ranging from 0.125 inch to 1 inch and overall lengths from 4 inches to 24 inches; for exact fit, mold makers can trim the baffles.
Benefits Standardization. The off-the-shelf parts make possible mold cooling in cases where the mold layout is tricky. With the baffles, mold makers can ensure that cooling water reaches areas that would otherwise overheat. DME’s units are designed for optimal water flow and have fins to create turbulence in the water, so it doesn’t become stagnant.
