Hello, welcome to PMM Insight, a Plastics Machinery & Manufacturing podcast. I am your host, Ron Shinn, editor of PMM.
This is an episode of Machinery Minutes, where at the beginning of each week I share with you three things you need to know in about three minutes. You can read the complete stories on plasticsmachinerymanufacturing.com.
Let’s get started.
Story No. 1: National data says that there is not much excess manufacturing capacity left in the U.S. and if expansion and reshoring takes place, we will have to go through the time-consuming process of building new factories.
But the data also suggests that plastics processors may have excess capacity available right now and just needs to press the Start button when new business arrives.
What is the situation in your plant?
Please take our very brief, five-question poll on your capacity situation. We are trying to find out if you have excess capacity and if you would need to buy new equipment to accommodate new business.
The story is headlined, “Poll: Is your company ready to take on new business?”
Story No. 2: Every three months, we publish statistics on machinery sales that are provided by the PLASTICS Committee on Equipment Statistics.
The data on machinery bookings and shipments is collected by a third-party fiduciary for PLASTICS and put into perspective by PLASTICS’ Chief Economist Perc Pineda.
Following each quarterly report, Pineda provides a macroeconomic overview that links plastics machinery trends and broader manufacturing indicators, capital investment activity and end-market demand.
Survey participants also have exclusive access to Pineda’s Quarterly Cross Sector Analysis, which correlates CES data with general macroeconomic data.
Participation in the CES is open to all qualified machinery manufacturers. To find out more, see the story, headlined, “PLASTICS’ Committee on Equipment Statistics: Empowering plastics machinery manufacturers.”
Story No. 3: In news about new products, Dri-Air has added two new models to the MD dryer series. The new units have maximum capacities of 5 pounds for the MD-2 and 15 pounds for the MD-3.
They are constructed with stainless steel and Pyrex glass and are ideal for use in clean rooms.
The MD-1, which debuted at NPE 2024, has a capacity of 3 pounds.
The story headline is, “MD dryers tailored for low throughputs.”
Those are my Top 3 items for this week. We have a new list every Monday.
