S-Line This series of modular robots includes models designed to serve injection molding machines (IMMs) from 100 tons to 1,000 tons of clamping force. So far, three new modular options are available: a basic three-axis servo-driven configuration; a configuration with additional servo wrist rotations for a total of five axes of CNC motion; and application-specific configurations such as a medical version adapted for clean-roomenvironments. Multicolor LED lights broadcast to users the operational status of the robots, even from across the shop floor. They are suitable for the full range of IMM applications, including multi-machine, multi-robot manufacturing cells.

What’s new? The line of robots, which replaces Sepro’s S5 and 5X lines, available for the last decade. At the K show, where Sepro introduced the robots, featuring the new Visual 4 control, one clean-room version of the S-15X was in a cell with a Sumitomo (SHI) Demag IMM in a complex automation demonstration; a second S-15X worked alongside Sepro’s Success 11X in another cell. Sepro plans to continue reconfiguring and simplifying its entire product range and will redesign some of its large robots for introduction next year.

Benefits High-performance, higher speed, longer strokes and greater payloads, compared with the older robots. The new robots operate at 15 percent faster speeds for better cycle times and have increased rigidity, increasing positioning precision. Also, the servo-driven wrist on the new robots is more compact than previous designs, and their Y-axis demolding stroke has been extended by almost 8 inches, increasing the effective stroke length by 22 to 40 percent, depending on the size of the robot.   Maximum payload capacity has been increased by 20 percent in the standard models and 40 percent in heavy-load versions.
