Gallery: Training gives workers, processors a leg up

Hands-on experiences, structured classroom sessions, virtual reality, easier-to-use equipment all help compensate for shortage of workers, manufacturing skills gaps.

Processors like Pyramid Molding Group in Rockford, Ill., and Stelray Plastics Inc., Ansonia, Conn., are taking advantage of training approaches both old and new to help their workers grow in their jobs.

As many manufacturing jobs go unfilled, with an aging workforce nearing retirement, processors, OEMs and training providers tout the many advantages of training — which empowers workers to ensure better, more consistent parts, while building a workforce for the future that's engaged and ready to take on new roles.
