As the conversation around materials, sustainability and modern manufacturing continues to evolve, the plastics industry is taking an important step forward. The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) has launched www.positivesofplastic.org, a new digital platform designed to equip the industry and the general public with clear, fact-based information about plastic materials and their critical role in daily life.
Built as a centralized, accessible resource, Positives of Plastic brings together economic data, science-based sustainability information, real-world case studies and ready-to-share visuals for better understanding of the full picture behind plastic material. The platform offers a modern, user-friendly experience that enables visitors to explore how plastics support safety, innovation and circularity across the U.S. economy.
“This platform provides industry stakeholders, policymakers and the public with the tools they need to better understand our industry, and the role we play in keeping plastic waste out of the environment and in our economy,” said Matt Seaholm, PLASTICS president and CEO.
Providing reliable, centralized information
Positives of Plastic was created in direct response to what PLASTICS has heard across the value chain: a need for transparent, reliable and readily accessible information about plastic materials. From policymakers to manufacturers, stakeholders have repeatedly asked for a credible resource that addresses both the benefits of plastics and the realities of sustainability challenges.
The new site delivers exactly that. Key features include:
- Economic snapshots: Clear data demonstrating the industry’s strength — supporting over 1 million U.S. jobs and contributing more than $550 billion to the national economy.
- Fact-based sustainability content: Science-driven explanations that illustrate why plastics are often the most efficient and environmentally responsible material choice.
- Real-world applications: Examples showing how plastics deliver safety and innovation in healthcare, food preservation, transportation, electronics, clean energy and infrastructure.
- Poppy, an AI chatbot: A friendly, intuitive tool designed to answer questions about materials, recycling, environmental impact and industry trends with accuracy and accessibility.
- Downloadable resources: Shareable graphics, visuals and one-page explainers tailored for member companies, educators and communications professionals.
Supporting members and strengthening industry voice
Beyond serving the public, Positives of Plastic was built with PLASTICS members at its very core. The platform offers tools that material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, processors and brand owners can use in daily communications, public meetings, customer interactions and community engagement.
“Our members asked for a credible, easy-to-use resource that helps them tell the real story of plastics, and Positives of Plastic delivers exactly that. It equips companies of every size with the facts and tools they need to communicate with confidence and clarity,” said PLASTICS senior VP of industry engagement Ashley Hood-Morley.
Advancing circularity
A major focus of the online platform is sustainability — specifically, advancing real circularity through innovation, modernization of recycling systems and environmentally responsible design. Positives of Plastic highlights ongoing industry investments, technological breakthroughs and collaborative efforts aimed at expanding recycling access and improving material recovery nationwide.
Patrick Krieger, PLASTICS senior VP of sustainability, said, “Positives of Plastic reinforces the simple truth that sustainability and performance must go hand-in-hand. Our industry is committed to keeping plastics in the circular economy and out of the environment by investing in real solutions, modernized systems and measurable progress.”
A resource for today and the conversations ahead
Positives of Plastic represents an important milestone for PLASTICS and the industry at large. At a time when material science, recycling policy and sustainability commitments are rapidly evolving, the platform ensures that accurate information is readily available, clearly communicated and grounded in real-world benefits.
“Clear, fact-based communication is essential for policymakers and the public to understand the future of plastic materials and sustainability. We encourage them to use this platform as a tool to understand how plastics support innovation, safety, and real circularity,” said Stephanie Strategos Polis, PLASTICS VP of public affairs.
