Hellweg granulators get smart update

Smart Control measures and stores information about the granulator's performance, and uses it to predict and head off potential malfunctions.

Granulators At K 2019, Hellweg Maschinenbau displayed a range of its granulators, which span from lab-sized models to large central granulators with grinding outputs of up to 5,511 pounds per hour.

What’s new? The Smart Control system. This digital control system has Industry 4.0 capabilities and directs networked communication with upstream and downstream components. Smart Control comes in two versions. GRANUmaster Smart Control Ecotec comes with a 4.3-inch plastic touch-screen display, and GRANUmaster Smart Control Professional has a 7-inch glass touch-screen display. Smart Control is offered on Hellweg’s 150 series mid-sized beside-the-press granulators and larger machines, as well as the company’s central granulators and skeleton waste granulators. The company said Smart Control can also be retrofitted to its existing granulators.

Benefits Performance tracking. Smart Control measures and stores information about the granulator, including power consumption, rotation speed and bearing temperatures. It can compare actual performance efficiency with reference values, and use that information to predict and head off potential malfunctions and damage to components like bearings and blades.
