Sumitomo (SHI) Demag announced the next phase of the company’s succession plan following the retirement of CEO Gerd Liebig. Effective Sept. 1, Christian Maget will assume the role of CEO.
Maget, who joined the company in 2013, will continue his management responsibilities for human resources and IT, and oversee the group’s strategic direction.
As part of the same transition phase, Anatol Sattel will assume the new role of CSO. Sattel, who joined the company in 2017, has directed developed the medical business since 2019, and in his new role will oversee its frontline external presence with customers, business partners, subsidiaries and representatives. He also will aim to strengthen cooperation with Japan.
Maget expressed his appreciation for all he has learned from the leadership of Liebig, who led the Schwaig, Germany-based maker of injection molding machines for nine years. “What the Group has accomplished steering through some of the most challenging economic circumstances is testament to Gerd Liebig’s work ethic, drive and integrity,” Maget said in a press release. “… Mr. Liebig has been instrumental in expanding our service offerings as well as driving forward the development of more sustainable, automated manufacturing solutions.”
