Engel collaborates to bring injection molding program to S.C.

The manufacturer teamed up with Spartanburg Community College to create a first-of-its-kind program in the state.

After several Tier 1 automotive molders in South Carolina reached out to the plastics industry for help sourcing skilled workers, Engel joined forces with Spartanburg Community College (SCC) to create the state’s only injection molding program.

Engel and a consortium of Tier 1 suppliers spent two years working with legislators to get the program started. SCC was chosen due to its customized training and development courses. Engel installed a 550-ton duo two-platen hydraulic injection molding machine and provided its customer training materials and curriculum.

Classes were meant to begin in spring of 2020, but were delayed until fall. The first 15-member class completed its six-week schedule in December, and the third class is scheduled to begin March 22.
