Drum dumper keeps workers safe

Flexicon's mobile dumper provides dust-free dumping and incorporates a cage to boost safety.

Mobile Drum Dumper This drum dumper from Flexicon includes a three-sided cage on a mobile frame. Built to dump bulk solids from 30- or 55-gallon drums, the container is first lifted so its rim forms a tight seal with a discharge cone. The container and cone are then tipped to mate with a gasketed receiving ring on an enclosed hopper that feeds a flexible screw conveyor. A pneumatic slide gate opens to allow the bulk material to flow, and closes to stop the flow before the drum is returned to its original position.

What’s new? The safety cage. The cage, which has safety interlocked doors, protects workers from moving parts and in case material in the drum shifts.

Benefits Safe, dust-free dumping. The entire process is fully enclosed from the moment the drum is lifted. The dumper is solidly built, with standard construction of carbon steel with stainless steel contact surfaces, but an all-stainless steel version is available to meet standards for food, dairy and pharmaceutical sectors. It can be wheeled by hand to each hopper in a facility, then plugged in at that location to dump the drum. With optional cone adapters, the drum dumper can offer dust-tight dumping for smaller drums with a height of 20 inches and a diameter of 15 inches.
