Balances handle very small samples

Excellence XPR Analytical and XPR Micro-Analytical Designed for weighing very small samples, Mettler Toledo’s newest balances use the company’s StaticDetect technology and an optional ionizing module to detect and eliminate the effects of static on measurements. Functions include StatusLight, which ensures that the setup is correct; a draft shield, which helps reduce the effects of air currents; and Level Control graphics, which help users level the balances. Also available are an assortment of optional accessories, including printers, clips, software and density kits.

What’s new? The balances, which the company launched a few months ago. Compared with other, existing Mettler Toledo balances, those in the Excellence XPR Analytical line are about 10 percent smaller. Also, they include the company’s patented Active Temperature Control system, which increases weighing stability.

Benefits Accuracy. With StaticDetect, the Excellence XPR Analytical balances avoid the errors that can be caused by electrostatic charges. Depending on the model and application, the difference between any two measured points — also known as readability — on one of the balances is as low as 1 microgram. And, because of their sensitivity, the balances can handle really small samples, avoiding waste of expensive substances.
