Davis-Standard acquires Maillefer, installs extruder

Davis-Standard LLC, a supplier of extrusion and converting technology headquartered in Pawcatuck, Conn., has completed its acquisition of Maillefer SA, a provider of wire, cable, pipe and tube production technologies. The Vantaa, Finland-based company will continue to operate as before, said Lars Fagerholm, CEO of Maillefer.

Davis-Standard has more than 900 employees worldwide and operates manufacturing and technical facilities in the U.S., China, Germany and the United Kingdom. Maillefer has more than 240 employees working in its manufacturing and service facilities in Finland, Switzerland, China, Russia, India and Egypt.

In addition to the acquisition, Davis-Standard also announced the installation of a development extruder at its Pawcatuck Extrusion Technology Development Center, where it will be used for internal research and development. The 4.5-inch, next-generation Thermatic extruder:

  • is powered by a 400-horsepower water-cooled motor,  • offers L:D ratios of 24:1, 30:1 and 34:1,  • has a maximum screw speed of 375 revolutions per minute,  • is equipped with an Epic III control system,  • can be fitted with any of the company's DSB line of feed screws, as well as those in the TS DSBM, TS Metering and TS DS-Blend lines.

The flexible machine also can be outfitted with a variety of metering screws and other specialized designs.
