In memory: Stephen J. Sweig

Stephen J. Sweig, former chief engineer at Profile Plastics Inc., Lake Bluff, Ill., died Jan. 30. He spent more than 30 years with Profile Plastics and was considered by many to be a pioneer in thermoforming, having been named 2002 Thermoformer of the Year by the Society of Plastics Engineers and receiving a U.S. patent in 1986 for his "Method for Double-Sided Thermoforming." He was also influential in the development of five-axis trimming for plastic parts and the growth and commercialization of pressure forming.
