Blowscan and Thermoscan These technologies from Blow Moulding Technologies (BMT) combine virtual simulation, 3D-printed molds and lab-scale testing to accelerate and de-risk bottle development. Using infrared technologies and a batch-fed preform system, without any conveyors or hoppers, Blowscan replicates industrial conditions and captures key data, including preform temperature, inflation pressure and blow geometry. It offers simulations and analysis of the free stretch-blow molding process to evaluate variation in preform quality, and enables users to compare and assess new designs and unique geometries. Meanwhile, the Thermoscan scanning technology analyzes preforms, with simultaneous measurement of internal and external temperature profiles.

What’s new? Advanced features for faster, smarter bottle design, known as Smart Prototyping, which BMT plans to show at Drinktec 2025 in September in Munich.

Benefits Effective analysis of preform behavior, contributing to optimized bottle production, and the ability to ensure that the preform, bottle and resin are all optimal and compatible. Blowscan contributes to rapid prototyping and can be used for testing by customers before they commit to pilot or production runs. Using it can save time, resources and money, and allow users to make their products more sustainably with materials that can include recycled PET or biobased resins. By capturing real-time data on temperature, pressure and material behavior, the technologies allow manufacturers to optimize preform geometry, material selection and processing parameters before beginning mass production. Also, with Thermoscan, users can quantify and eliminate site-to-site and machine-to-machine variation.
