Bekum Maschinenfabriken GmbH, Berlin, has consolidated its blow molding machine manufacturing operations in Austria. The move will have no impact on Bekum America Corp., Williamston, Mich., says Gary Carr, a North American director of sales.
According to a reorganization plan approved in April, Bekum Maschinenfabriken will move its packaging machine assembly operations to its existing production site in Traismauer, Austria. The company plans to expand its manufacturing and office space at the plant in Austria, as well as add staff.
The company plans to complete the reorganization by the third quarter of this year.
Carr says other European operations, including sales and service, will remain in Berlin. He says the move "just made sense" because the company was already performing manufacturing operations in Austria. Workers in Berlin have been given a chance to relocate, Carr says.
