Full-Range Automatic Die (FRAD) system Appropriate for film and sheet extrusion applications, SBI's thickness-monitoring system uses a pair of computer-controlled mechanisms to guide bolts along the die to adjust the width of the opening. The bolts rely on thermal expansion and contraction, and are heated with heating cartridges and chilled by external ventilation. The system is used mostly for thicknesses of as much as 2mm.What's new? Introduction in the U.S. The system has been in use in Europe for about eight years.

Benefits Ability to maintain the consistency of film or sheet products, as well as to alter thicknesses quickly, if desired. The system reduces shrinkage and saves material, and the use of software makes the process more efficient.
