Essentium to develop metal additive manufacturing

Essentium Inc., a manufacturer of 3D printers and materials, is developing a new metal additive manufacturing platform.

The company said its special project team, EssentiumX, is leading the effort, which will incorporate the High Speed Extrusion technology the company uses on its existing fused-filament-fabrication printers.

The company said the new technology is supported by five patents, with three more patents pending. The parts the system produces will be comparable to castings and forgings with minimal post-processing required. Essentium is based in Pflugerville, Texas.
