Fimic's filtration system gains an advanced filter

Fimic's ERA automatic filtration unit combines two filters, two melt chambers and two discharge points in one machine.

ERA Fimic's automatic filtration unit combines two filters, two melt chambers and two discharge points in one machine. The first chamber uses a punch screen to filter out large contaminants. The second chamber uses a laser-drilled filter to capture smaller contaminants. In North America, Zimmer represents Fimic, Carmignano di Brenta, Italy.

What's new? Upgrades to the laser-drilled filter so that it can remove smaller contaminants.  Now available with 100-micron holes, the laser filter provides fine filtration for highly contaminated plastic and is especially suited for blown film, high-quality sheet and similar applications that use recycled plastic and require a clean melt. The first two ERA units are scheduled to be delivered this month.

Benefits Efficiency and finer filtration of contaminated material with a single unit. The ERA only is slightly larger than standard screen changers but performs the function of two screen changers. In some applications, it eliminates the need for a second extruder. Screen changes take only about 40 minutes, according to the company.
