Plug+Play Vision System Robotiq has upgraded its wrist-camera system for robots from Universal Robots, Ann Arbor, Mich., making them even more suited for pick-and-place applications like palletizing and packaging. Designed to allow collaborative robots to locate objects on a work surface, the system boasts a 5-minute set-up time.

What's new? Upgrades to the system's Camera URCaps software, which was introduced a few months ago. Available as a free download for existing users, the software is compatible with all Robotiq sensors and grippers, and on Universal Robots using controllers equipped with Version CB3.1 or higher. It now offers a feature that allows users who interact with the robots to draw rectangles on an interface around pictures of the robots' target objects. Once users have "taught" the robot in this way, they can create a program that includes the steps for locating and picking up the target object.

Benefits Faster and easier programming, so robots can better identify parts. Also, Camera URCaps facilitates easy adjustments under changing circumstances, such as varying light conditions. In addition to the software upgrades, the system has also been recently enhanced to make installation easier and improve troubleshooting.
