PlasThick TeTechS' new thickness-measurement system works with single- and multilayer opaque and translucent plastic bottles and preforms. It can be used for off-line, at-line and in-line applications, but so far, TeTechS said, customers have chosen to use it in off-line configurations.

What's new? The platform technology, TeraGauge, that powers PlasThick. Developed by the company late last year, the technology has completed beta testing and recently became available commercially.

Benefits Nondestructive, noncontact, quick testing of the thicknesses of individual layers, including barrier layers. The device can measure as many as 10 layers ranging in thickness from 0.01mm to 5mm in a matter of seconds. With it, users can eliminate the costs, time and potential errors associated with the manual cutting of bottles or preforms, which is required using more traditional testing methods.
