Using its Active Object Control System, this new sensor sorter from Steinert can keep paper and plastic film from flying away or becoming caught in the machinery as the materials are being separated for recycling.

UniSort Film Using its Active Object Control System, this new sensor sorter from Steinert can keep paper and plastic film from flying away or becoming caught in the machinery as the materials are being separated for recycling. Air injection at the beginning of the process allows the material to be spread out before it reaches the belt. The system comes equipped with HSI (hyper-spectral imaging) camera technology, which is used to sort objects accurately, even when they differ in only small ways.

What's new? The sorter, which debuted in the U.S. in August.

Benefits Safe, efficient, fast sorting of paper and plastics, producing an end product with fewer contaminants. The closed-air system releases no dust, mold or other contaminants into the air. According to Steinert, the UniSort's belt moves three times faster than open systems, which are prone to problems caused by lightweight materials that have a tendency to fly off.
