Extrusion screw pretensioner KraussMaffei Berstorff has introduced a hydraulic device to tighten segmented screws during installation. It works with all extruder sizes in the firm's ZE BluePower, ZE-UTX and UltraTorque product lines.

What's new? The pretensioner. Typically, workers tighten segmented screws using a torque wrench, which can be time-consuming and imprecise.

Benefits Simple tightening and less cleaning. The hydraulic pretensioner applies a reproducible, defined tensile load to the screw shafts, but without torsional stress. It can be tightened at the press of a button. Defined pretension forces prevent the melt from getting between the screw and the mandrel, eliminating time-consuming disassembly and cleaning.
