SMS granulators Herbold Meckesheim has upgraded this series of knife granulators built for heavy, thick-walled, semi-finished products; thick-walled pipes; and large purgings. The SMS machines, which Herbold is exhibiting at NPE, feature a segmental knife design that allows quick and easy exchange of cutting tools and a third bed knife, or deflection wedge, that can be removed to accommodate larger, bulky items. Rotor widths range from 23.5 to 78.75 inches; drive capacities, 60 to 420 horsepower.
What's new? Structural reinforcement of the cutting chamber and feed hoppers. There's more latching at the cutting chamber for greater security against vibration due to added clamping force.
Benefits The ability to handle demanding, heavy-duty, size-reduction applications especially as materials get tougher. Knives can be adjusted outside the granulator, resulting in reduced down time when replacing knives.
