Italian recycling equipment manufacturer CMG SpA is introducing several granulators at the K Show. CMG, based in Bologna, builds shredders and granulators specifically for in-house operations by injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming and blow molding processors, as well as large-scale recycling plants.

The Evoluzione granulator series, designed for heavy-duty operations, debuts with two models, the EV916 and EV616. Both utilize a 36-inch diameter, 63-inch-long open-type rotor and have a capacity of 6,600 pounds to 11,000 pounds per hour.

CMG said the design of the Evoluzione machines cuts blade replacement time by 50 percent compared with previous models and allows for longer blade life. Antiwear plates in the cutting chamber are easy to replace and capacity can be increased by 40 percent by adding a feed pusher.

The series is suitable for wet or dry applications, CMG said. Power consumption has been reduced by about 30 percent compared to granulators with similar capacity.

Industry 4.0-compatible controls can also be monitored remotely. Operating parameters that can be managed include temperature, blade wear, productivity, operational efficiency and energy use.

The new multipurpose G26 granulator line can be used in injection molding, extrusion and blow molding plants. CMG said the energy-efficient granulators create homogeneous particle size and no dust.

Capacities of the three models in the series range from 110 pounds per hour to 3,300 pounds per hour. The line currently has three models: the G26-30 with a 12.2-inch by 13.6-inch feed opening; the G26-45 with a 17.9-inch by 13.6-inch opening; and the G26-60 with a 23.8-inch by 13.6-inch opening. All three have a 9.8-inch-diameter rotor.

CMG said the G26 series’ signature feature is a unique cutting chamber. It is assembled from CNC-machined steel parts with very tight precision tolerances. The fabrication reduces friction and abrasions, CMG said. No cooling water is needed.

The SL series is a line of new low-speed, screenless granulators built for the highly technical size reduction of injection molded waste such as sprues and runners. The series comes in four models with throughputs ranging from 11 pounds per hour up to 66 pounds per hour.

CMG said cutters perform precise cuts without fracturing or crashing parts together, which means an SL granulator can produce regrind with dimensions comparable to virgin resin pellets. The rotor turns at just 25 rpm.

A high-intensity magnetic plate near the feeding point traps metal before it can contaminate the regrind or damage the granulator. Feeding hoppers are equipped with sound-insulating material to reduce noise.

CMG is owned by Piovan SpA, and CMG products are available in North America through Piovan’s Universal Dynamics subsidiary. It wiil display its granulators at Hall 9, Booth C10.
