Plastic processors and recyclers with big pieces to shred — items as big as an entire porta potty or an oversized curbside recycling bin — can consider the Beast from BCA Industries.

The Beast — formally called the ES2000 — is the company’s largest industrial shredder and is designed for shredding applications that require high torque and high volume. It has a cutting chamber that is 4.6 feet by 6 feet by 3.7 feet, along with auto-reverse and overload protection. Available motors go up to 800 horsepower.

The unit is now available with BCA’s patented Triplus technology, which can be equipped with different sizes and shapes of knives so material is cut to uniform size in a single pass. Triplus became available on other BCA shredders earlier this year.

Traditional large-capacity shredders have points of vulnerability, including knives, shafts, bearings and hydraulics that are not adequately designed for high volumes or heavy loads, BCA said. The Beast is designed to minimize the possibility that those components will fail.

John Neuens, BCA sales director, said that because of its large chamber, the Beast can reliably shred up to 40 tons per hour. Its 24-inch-diameter hard-faced knives use a base AR-500 alloy for durability.

The unit has eight small, off-the-shelf hydraulic motors in a cluster-drive system that creates redundancy in the power supply and reduces possible downtime.

Dual cutting chambers are available. The Beast also can be equipped with ram assist and compression feed systems. Triplus systems can be stacked to reduce input to progressively smaller sizes without screening.

BCA also offers conveyors, hoppers, magnetics and other secondary equipment, plus on-site system set-up.
