Melt pressure sensor works in small spaces

Feb. 10, 2023
Kistler's 4004A sensor can measure pressure and temperature in direct contact with the melt in injection nozzles in hot-runner systems and small extruders in 3D printers.

4004A sensor Kistler’s piezoresistive melt pressure sensor has a front diameter of just 3mm, so it can measure pressure and temperature in direct contact with the melt in injection nozzles in hot-runner systems and small extruders in 3D printers.

What’s new? The sensor, which was displayed in October at the K Show.

Benefits Precise, accurate measurement, facilitating better process monitoring. Thanks to its compact size, the sensor can be installed in small nozzles with no critical changes to injection behavior. With the sensor’s pressure-measurement capabilities, users can spot problems that might indicate anomalies, such as deposits in small nozzles or melt backflow. Due to its design, the 4004A can be used in applications involving fiber-reinforced plastics, as well as in medical-device and food-packaging industries.
