reSound REC Avient’s reSound REC portfolio of TPEs encompasses grades containing post-industrial and post-consumer content. Formulations in the product line have from nine percent to 83 percent recycled content from sources such as ocean plastics, food packaging and polyvinyl butyral from automotive windshields and building glass.

What’s new? A grade formulated using post-consumer content that has received a no-objection letter from the Food and Drug Administration. It is a 65 Shore A hardness grade that contains 25 percent post-consumer PP. The FDA letter confirms that the recycled material used in the formulation can be used for manufacturing certain food-contact articles. With performance characteristics comparable to virgin TPEs, applications for the material include toothbrush grips, personal-care items and certain types of food-contact items, such as reusable crates. The new reSound REC grade is naturally gray, can be colored and is appropriate for injection molding or overmolding onto PP. It is part of Avient’s strategy to develop sustainable materials with specialized performance requirements.

Benefits Sustainability. The new grade allows product manufacturers to easily incorporate recycled materials into their products while meeting regulatory requirements.
