Teradyne announces U.S. operations hub that will build Universal Robots
Teradyne Robotics, a provider of industrial collaborative and autonomous mobile robotics, will open a U.S. Operations Hub in the metropolitan Detroit area in 2026 to accommodate growing manufacturing demand in the Americas.
The facility in Wixom, Mich., will manufacture Universal Robots (UR) industrial collaborative robots (cobots), with future potential to include MiR autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). It will also serve as a customer training, service and visitor experience center.
It will bring an investment of up to $32 million and approximately 230 jobs, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corp. Teradyne already has a regional robotics office in nearby Novi, Mich.
“This new U.S. Operations Hub is a pivotal step to support the growth of advanced robotics in America and demonstrates our commitment to customers in the United States,” said Jean-Pierre Hathout, president of the Teradyne Robotics Group. “Our customers are looking to robotics not only to boost competitiveness, but also to make factory floors more attractive to the next generation of workers. With this facility, we’re investing in both automation and education — scaling up deployment, service and training capabilities to meet the evolving needs of U.S. manufacturing, logistics and warehousing.”
A recent survey by UR shows 73 percent of North American manufacturers cite productivity improvement as their top reason for investing in automation. Of the companies already using cobots, 87 percent reported double-digit productivity improvements, and 83 percent of all respondents reported positive employee sentiment toward robotics.
The new production facility will be the second outside of Denmark; the other is in China. The company said the hub has been in the works for more than a year as a growth initiative. By the time the U.S. hub opens in late 2026, Teradyne expects demand to be at a level that all three of the production sites will be needed to supply the global market.
