MultiStar This KraussMaffei automation cell for post-mold processing of parts made from any type of foam or plastic incorporates up to three freely programmable, multi-axis robots for milling, ultrasonic cutting and deflashing. It also can be configured to include punching, testing and ultrasonic welding equipment. The cell features an end-to-end system for process monitoring and data analysis. Finishing automotive instrument panels is an ideal application for the open-platform system.

What’s new? The system, which debuted at K 2019, and various new components, including a robot-controlled deflashing head that the company developed. At K 2019, KraussMaffei used MultiStar to remove flash from semi-rigid PU foam components. The deflashing tool, which is adaptable to the specific requirements of a part’s geometry and material, removed flash without damaging the body of the part. The company also demonstrated an automatic tool-changing system for the MultiStar cell.

Benefits Efficiency. The cell automates and combines multiple post-mold processes for efficient and productive workflows. Additionally, the new deflashing tool is designed for efficiency.
