Trexel adds nitrogen boosters to MuCell foaming technology

July 28, 2021
The NC-series nitrogen boosters supply supercritical nitrogen to MuCell dosing units, allowing multiple presses to be equipped with the foaming technology.

MuCell Trexel’s MuCell microcellular foaming technology for injection molding produces lightweight, foamed parts with wall thicknesses optimized for functionality, resulting in material and weight savings of more than 20 percent in many cases. MuCell supercritical fluid (SCF) dosing systems precisely dose and inject small amounts of SCF into the plasticizing unit of the injection molding machine to create lower-density, stress-free microcellular material structures in the molded part.

What’s new? NC Series nitrogen boosters, which are used to supply supercritical nitrogen to multiple MuCell dosing units, allowing multiple presses to be equipped with the foaming technology. Because dosing and control takes place upstream near each injection molding machine, the compact booster unit can be placed as far away as gas distribution lines allow. Two sizes are available: the NC-250, which provides up to 215 liters of SCF per minute; and the NC-500, which provides 500 liters per minute. NC Series units operate using bottled nitrogen, a compatible nitrogen generator or nitrogen from a bulk liquid storage system.

Benefits Cost savings. NC Series nitrogen boosters are a flexible, low-cost option for implementing MuCell technology on multiple presses. Additionally, they are quiet, low-maintenance and have a simple control.
