Netstal PET-Line allows side entry of molds

The new preform line has been optimized to process PET with recycled content of up to 100 percent.

A new preform line from Netstal allows entry of molds from the side and has been optimized to process PET with recycled content of up to 100 percent.

The Netstal PET-Line, the first featuring the ninth generation of Netstal’s aXos controllers, made its debut in mid-September with the launch of a 450-ton machine; other models are on the way, said Netstal, a brand of the KraussMaffei Group, Munich, Germany.

“By switching to side-entry we are reshuffling the cards within the PET world,” said Renzo Davatz, CEO of KraussMaffei HighPerformance AG, Näfels, Switzerland. “The Netstal brand is now also a perfect alternative for users whose production layout focuses on machines with lateral removal and who have a corresponding stock of injection molds.”

Machines in the series feature a new screw design and can accommodate as many as four laterally positioned post-mold cooling stations. The machines are made to ensure a homogeneous and consistent melt quality, minimal drop in intrinsic viscosity and gentle material feed.

The machines’ fully electric clamping units have a five-point, dual-toggle lever.

Netstal plans to continue to offer its top-entry machines.

Also making its debut with the side-entry machines is the newest generation of the aXos controller, aXos 9, which offers touch-screen and haptic navigation.

“Navigation between the individual settings occurs exclusively via the touch screen. In contrast, all the axial motion is triggered exclusively via the haptic keys,” said Stefan Kleinfeld, PET systems product manager. This makes it possible to provide operator feedback without looking at the screen.

The machines also offer Netstal’s Smart Operation features, with four keys for intuitive operations. Clear information and color indications enable simple, fast and reliable process control.

Under the Smart Operation principle, operators can start preform production using just two keys. “The volume of written process descriptions, checklists and instructions at the machine is drastically reduced,” Kleinfeld said.

This feature simplifies training for new operators.

According to Netstal, the machines are reliable and energy-efficient. They are capable of short cycle times.

With the new Netstal PET-Line, you get what is currently the most powerful, environmentally friendly and reliable preform system around,” said Eric Overbeek, VP of sales at KraussMaffei HighPerformance.
