Augmented reality facilitates factory automation

Sept. 22, 2020
ABB's RobotStudio AR Viewer helps companies visualize how robots and robot cells can be deployed on a factory floor to fit around existing production equipment.

RobotStudio ABB’s PC-based RobotStudio offline programming software allows users to design, configure and commission individual robots and complete robot systems in a virtual environment. Manufacturing companies can test and refine solutions before implementation, speeding up installation and eliminating surprises during commissioning.

What’s new? The Augmented Reality (AR) Viewer app, which overlays automation onto the actual production environment. With RobotStudio AR Viewer, users can get an idea of the size and scale of a robot or robot cell and how it can be deployed on a factory floor to fit around existing production equipment. Accessible on smartphones tablets and other smart devices, the app is available free of charge at the Apple Store and Google Play Store until Dec. 31. ABB also offers a free training course.

Benefits Convenience. The AR Viewer provides a fast and easy way to visualize how robotic automation fits into a manufacturing process and is appropriate for companies that are new to robotic automation. The app’s timeline feature allows users to go quickly to a certain point in the animation of the production process to pinpoint potential issues or find ways to enhance system performance.
